Friday News 11/10

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We continued learning about Predictions. We practiced making predictions with a partner and by ourselves while reading.

Writing: This week we wrote poems! We learned how to take a big feeling and put it into a small moment for our poems.















Math: We continued learning about two-digit subtraction. We practiced subtracting by learning some poems to help us know when to regroup.















Bible: We continued learning about Jesus' birth. We learned how Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. We also learned about the first people to hear about Jesus' birth, the shepherds, and how they shared with everyone the good news. We also learned about Simeon and Ana who waited many years to meet Jesus. They taught us to wait patiently for the things that God has promised us.

Phonics: We learned about homophones (words that sound the same, but are spelled different). We each drew some homophones and then practiced them with different games.















Important Information:

Please note that we will be taking our Spelling Test and Bible Test on Monday, November 20th
1. Spelling Words: This week is a review week for spelling. Our words are: neighbor, children, enough, weigh, peace, railway, praise, eight, breeze, hundred, been, use, know, leave

2. Memory Verse: Where is the child who has been born to be king of the Jews? When we were in the east, we saw his star. Now we have come to worship him. Matthew 2:2

3. Walkathon is this Saturday! Please arrive by 8:30 to be ready to walk at 9:00. The Holiday Market will also be on Saturday from 10am-2pm.

4. There is no school on Monday!

Friday News 11/3

We had a great Parent Teacher Conference today! I enjoyed getting to meet with all of you and talk about the progress that your student has made so far in 2nd grade!

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We learned how to make predictions while reading a story. We learned to use the clues in the pictures and the words to make a guess about what is going to happen next.


Writing: We started our second unit on Poetry. This week we learned how to see things through the eyes of a poet. We looked at ordinary objects and wrote down what they made us think of.












Math: We started our unit on two-digit subtraction. We practiced borrowing from the tens to be able to subtract.

Bible: We learned about the angel visiting Zechariah to tell him that he was going to have a baby. We also learned about the angel visiting Mary to tell her that she was going to give birth to God's Son, Jesus and that He would save His people from their sins.

Social Studies: We took an "airplane ride" to Argentina! We learned about some interesting places, the food, and the people of Miss Guiles' home country.

2. Memory Verse: I bring you good news of great joy. It is for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11

Friday News 10/28

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We finished learning about the parts of a story. We practiced identifying the problem and solution with a partner and on our own.


Writing: We finished our first writing unit on Narrative Stories!! On Friday we had a Writing Celebration with Miss Turner's class. Each student got to share their favorite story with a few of the first grade students! The students also took home all of the stories that they have been working on. Please take a few minutes to read through them and see the progress they have made this first quarter!
















Math: We started Chapter 4 which covers subtraction. We looked at two-digit fact families and learned one way to subtract two-digit numbers.

Bible: This week we made a timeline of all of the stories that we learned from the Old Testament. Each student chose two stories and worked with partners to draw them.

Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: those, hope, spoke, froze, know, grown, coat, goal, over, older, obey, hold, hundred, high

2. Bible Memory Verse: You must give him the name Jesus. That's because he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21

3. Next Friday is Parent/Teacher Conference Day! I am looking forward to meeting with all of you and showing you the progress that your child has made in this first quarter. Reports Cards will also be sent home on this day.

Friday News 10/20

Here's a look at our week!

Reading: This week we learned the different parts of a story. We learned to identify the characters, setting, problem, and solution. We also had Mrs. Roe come in an read to us on Wednesday!


Writing: In Writing we learned how to make our stories more powerful by adding how the character feels and what the character sees and hears. We also learned to replace our words with more specific and powerful words to help our reader make a mental picture.

Math: This week we learned how to add two-digit numbers. We practiced how to regroup the ones as tens. Next week we will take our Chapter 3 Test.

Bible: We finished learning about the Old Testament of the Bible. We learned about how God's people were taken into exile for 70 years because of their disobedience. We also learned that God brought them back to their land after those 70 years.





Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: cheese, teeth, even, please, team, easy, breeze, these, peace, leave, keep, zero, yours, upon

2. Bible Memory Verse: That kind of person is like a tree that is planted near a stream of water. It always bears its fruit at the right time. Its leaves don't dry up. Psalm 1:3

3. Walkathon is November 11th. Registration Forms and money are due this Monday. If your child would like to participate, they will need to have an adult walk with them.

4. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be November 3rd. Please check your child's Friday Folder to see your assigned time. Please fill out the form and return it to me next week.

Friday News 10/6

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we added Word Work to our Daily 5 activities. We also started our Reading Groups with Mrs. Reasoner!



Writing: We learned how to revise our story for periods and spelling. We also kept working on our true stories.









Math: This week we learned about even and odd numbers and equal addends. We also took our Chapter 2 Math test.

Bible: We learned about King Solomon and how God was generous to him and that God is generous to us! We also learned about how God used Elijah to show the He is the One, True God.

Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: grade, played, train, eight, faith, today, neighbor, gave, railway, praise, wave, weigh, enough, children

2. Memory Verse: Don't be afraid. Stand firm. You will see how the Lord will save you today. Exodus 14:13

3. There is no school on Monday!
