What a great second week of school! Even though it was a shortened week because of the typhoon on Monday, we were still able to have a great week.

In Reading we continued building stamina in our independent reading.  We talked about what it looks like to read independently and then the students found a spot in the room to practice.  Today we reached our highest time at 15 minutes!!  We also learned how to ask ourselves questions while we are reading to make sure we are understanding the book.

This week in Bible we learned about how God created the world in 7 days.  We made these fun bookmarks to help us remember all the amazing things that God created!

For Math we reviewed and learned about clocks by reading clocks and changing clocks to match the correct time.  We also practiced identifying quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies and counting money.  In Writing we practiced writing good sentences.  We learned about nouns and verbs and how both of these are needed to make a sentence.  We then practiced making super sentences with many details.

Important Information for next week:

1. Spelling Words: mud, puppy, under, contest, will, little, print, lost, block, this, spell, ever

2. Bible Memory Verse: "He doesn't change his mind. He speaks, and then he acts. He makes a promise, and then he keeps it."  Numbers 23:19

3. I have put the presentation from Open House at the top of our website.  If you would like to view it, please click on the link.

4. There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 7th.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Welcome to 2.1!!

Welcome to a new school year and welcome to second grade! We had a great first week of school getting to know each other as we made our All About Me posters.  We also practiced many of our procedures and learned how we are going to run our classroom this year.  Here is our first day of school picture:

On Tuesday we had our first combined chapel with all of 1st-5th grade.  We were able to meet all the teachers along with our new principal Mr. Jernberg.

This year we will be doing a lot of group work in our classroom, so we also did several team building activities to learn how to work together.  One of the activities was to pick up cups with only a rubber band and string.  Here are some pictures of each group trying to make a cup pyramid:

Important Information:

1. Please be sure to return all the Open House forms to school as soon as possible.
