Here is some important information about this week. If you have any questions please let me know:

11/29 On Thursday, students need to arrive at school at regular time with a home lunch and a water bottle. The students will go to their classrooms then board a bus to the Uruma Hall. We will practice at the hall until 1:30 and return to school. Please make sure you have sent back to permission slip!
木曜日は普通に学校へ到着してください。お弁当とすいとうをもたせてください。子どもたちが学校に来たあとにうるま市民芸術劇場へいきます。1:30にはもどってきます。パーミッションスリップをサインして提出してください。

11/30 On Friday, school will be dismissed at 12:30. Regular school lunch. If your child rides the bus, please calculate what time the bus will arrive when it departs OCSI around 12:40. 
金曜日は12:30に学校が終わります。給食は普通どうりです。子供がバスを乗っていであれば、12:40に学校を出発するということをおぼえて、家に到着する時間をかんがえてください。

PLEASE ARRIVE AT THE URUMA THEATER BY 5:30! Your child should be wearing dresses or nice clothes! After you arrive at the hall, the student will go backstage and the parents can find a seat in the Hall. If you are sitting in the audience looking at the stage, my class will be standing on the left side of the stage. The Program will be done around 7pm. 
金曜日の夜にうるま市民芸術劇場 へ5:30にとうちゃくしてください。子供はドレスアップしてください。子どもたちがバックステージに行ったあと、ご父母はホールに座ってください。客席に座ってステージを見れば、2.1のクラスは左側に立ちます!7時ぐらいにおわります。

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a great Harvest Day on Tuesday! The students learned about the first Thanksgiving, made turkeys, made thankful pumpkins, and played Thanksgiving themed games. In the afternoon we also enjoyed some yummy pie!






Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: This week will be a review lesson. We will review the following words:

enough, neighbor, been, weigh, peace, these, breeze, children, December, praise, could, try, leave, Friday

2. Memory Verse: And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." Mark 1:11

3. Next Thursday (November 29th) we will have our Christmas Program Practice at the Uruma Hall. All students will need to bring a home lunch that day as we will eat lunch away from school.

4. Next Friday (November 30th) is our annual 1st-5th Christmas Program. This year it is at the Uruma Citizens' Art Theater. Students need to arrive by 5:30 unless they have a speaking or solo (then they need to arrive at 5:15). Please make sure your student is dressed up for this event. School will end at 12:30 on this day to give students time to get home and then get to the theater.  Here is the website for the theater so you can find directions: http://www.uruma-theater.jp/

Friday News 11/12-11/16

Today we celebrated Mrs. E's birthday! We are so thankful for all she does to help us everyday! :)


Reading: This week we learned how to summarize a story. We read several stories together and looked for the key parts to tell.








Writing: We learned how to write our opinions about characters and back up our opinions with evidence from the book.

Math: We focused on word problems this week. We learned how to identify the key words that help us know what to do. We also did some two-step word problems.

Social Studies: We got to try three different activities from Africa! We learned how to play Shishima and Mancala and we wrote messages in Hieroglyphics.










Bible: We continued learning about the Christmas story. We learned about Simeon and Anna and how they had faith that God would keep His promises. They waited their whole lives to meet the Savior and were so excited when they met Jesus.

Important Information:

1. There will be no spelling test or Bible test next week.

2. On Saturday we are having our OCSI Holiday Market from 10-2! Please come join us for a fun time!

3. Next Tuesday is our 1st and 2nd Grade Harvest Day and Pie Day! We will learn about Thanksgiving and enjoy some pie together.

4. There will be NO SCHOOL next Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for Thanksgiving Break.

Friday News - 11/5-11/9

Today we had a special guest reader! Mrs. E and her dog Ace came to visit us and read a story!















Reading: This week we learned how to make a prediction or guess about what will happen next in the story. We learned to use clues in the pictures and words to help us guess what is coming next.


Writing: We started a new unit about writing letters! We are writing letters about our favorite characters and parts of books.



Math: We started two-digit subtraction this week. We learned three sayings to help us know how to subtract.

On Friday we practiced using these three sayings to help us solve our subtraction problems.



Bible: We started learning about the Christmas story! We learned about Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem. We also learned about the shepherds and how they heard about Jesus and then told everyone that He had come!

Social Studies: This week we traveled to Africa! We learned about the different countries, sports, and animals of Africa.

Important Information:

2. Memory Verse: Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11

3. Operation Christmas Child - We are going to do a great thing together as a class! Together we are going to pack a shoe-box for a child in need around the world! If you would like to bring in an item that would be great. Here are some ideas:

soccer ball with pump, stuffed animal, toys, doll, musical instrument, outfit, shoes, toy cars, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with batteries), pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, washcloths, T-shirts, socks, hats, sunglasses, hair clips, jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries)

4. There is NO SCHOOL on Monday! Enjoy the long weekend!

Friday News 10/29-11/2

We had two great days of Parent Teacher Conferences! Thank you for coming to hear about what your child is learning in 2nd grade!

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we added Word Work to our Daily 5 Reading time. This is a time when students practice making words and play games that have to do with words.






Writing: This week we took our best personal story and worked to publish it. We fixed the spelling and then rewrote the story in our best handwriting.

Math: We finished our unit on two-digit addition with our chapter test on Thursday. Next week we will start learning about two-digit subtraction.

Bible: We finished our study of the Old Testament and started learning about the time around Jesus' birth. We learned about Zechariah and how the angel promised him that he would have a son even though he was old. This son would prepare people for Jesus' coming.

Social Studies: We continued learning about South America this week through some games and activities. We played a matching game where we matched the flags to the different countries. We also played a map game where we used North, South, East, and West to try to visit all the countries in South America. The students also got to make their own rain sticks.






Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: hold, those, hope, know, coat, spoke, over, grown, froze, older, obey, goal, hundred, high

2. Bible Verse: You must give him the name Jesus. That's because he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21

3. We are happy to be doing Operation Christmas Child again this year! We will be collecting items to place inside our shoe box until November 14th. If you have any questions please let me know.
