Friday News 9/9-9/13

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We learned how to read longer and harder words by breaking them apart. Then we practiced by reading different facts about animals. We also started our Read to Someone practice.












Writing: We started our narrative writing unit by thinking of ideas we could write about. We thought about special memories with important people and about times we felt a strong emotion.

Math: We worked on word problems this week and also reviewed for our chapter 1 math test.

Bible: We learned all about prayer this week. On Thursday we practiced with four different prayer stations.








Important Information:
1. There is no school on Monday! Enjoy the long weekend!

2.  Scholastic Book Order: If you would like to order Scholastic Books you can do so online here: http://world-schools.scholastic.co.uk/okinawa-christian-school-intl
You can also fill out the paper order form and return it to school with the money. The last day to order will be Friday, September 20th.

3. 2nd grade will be going on a Field Trip on Monday, October 7th. More information will be coming soon!

4. Picture Day is coming on September 23rd and 24th! If you would like to order pictures please fill out the order form and return it to school.

Friday News 9/2-9/6

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We learned how to check for comprehension while reading. We read some books together and asked:
      Who is the main character?
      What happened in the story?
We also continued practicing our Read to Self to build stamina.

Writing: We talked about complete sentences. We learned that complete sentences have:
      1. A noun
      2. A verb
      3. A capital letter
      4. an end mark


Math: We worked on our addition and subtraction facts this week.

Social Studies: We made maps of our classroom and of our bedrooms!


Bible: We learned about Abraham and how he obeyed God and moved to a new place. We also learned that God always keeps His promises and takes care of us.

Friday News 8/26-8/30

Here's a look at our second week in second grade!

On Wednesday we got to celebrate Miss Remi's birthday!


Reading: We have been practicing how to Read to Self this week. Our goal is to make it to 20 minutes of uninterrupted reading time. So far we have made it to 19 minutes!

Writing: We spent the week practicing our writer's workshop procedures. We learned about picking a good spot to write and practiced writing for a certain amount of time.



Math: We have been practicing our math rotations and also reviewing our addition strategies.

Bible: We learned how God created the world in 6 days. We also learned about Adam and Eve and how sin came into the world.

Important Information:

1. Behavior Expectations: Please remember to check your student's homework checklist every night to see how they are doing in class. At the end of the day students will write down where they ended the day on their behavior check-in. Our goal is a three everyday but twos are expected also.


2. Monthly Bible Verse: But here is how God has shown his love for us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

We will be working on memorizing this verse for the month of September. At the end of the month students will be asked to recite the verse to me.

3. There will be no school on Monday!

Friday News 8/19-8/23

We had a great first week of school! We enjoyed getting to know each other and learning how to be 2nd graders!

On the first day of school, Miss Turner came to read us a special book.


We learned about our four rules: Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Hard Working, and Be Self-Controlled.





We wrote about something we did over the summer and took our beginning of the year math test.

We also practiced how to work together in groups and in partners.





We started P.E., Art, Japanese, and Literacy class this week also.

Important Information:

Next week we will start having homework Monday-Thursday. This will include math homework, reading or phonics homework, and 10 minutes of reading in English.

Friday News 6/3-6/7

We have finished our last full week of school! Only 2 1/2 more days to go!

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We finished our chapter book Alvin Ho

Writing: We finished our informational books on solids and liquids. This week we worked on writing what our materials is used for in the world and ending our books with a good conclusion.

Math: We finished learning about shapes and geometry and took our last chapter test. Then we reviewed all the math that we have learned this year so that we are ready for our end of the year test next week.

Science: We continued learning about solids and liquids!








Bible: We learned some more Fruit of the Spirit! This week we learned:

Goodness: I will do what is right
Faithfulness: I will not quit
Gentleness: I will be soft when I want to be hard

Important Information:

Next week is our last week of school! I will be sending home all our leftover supplies throughout the week.

Please come join us for our end of the year party on Wednesday from 11:00-12:30!

Friday News 5/28-5/31

We enjoyed having lunch together outside on Friday!





Reading: This week we began reading a chapter book together. 


Writing: We began writing our information books about Solids and Liquids. Each student chose a solid or a liquid that they know a lot about. Then we planned out our different chapters and wrote our introduction.

Math: We learned about fractions and area this week!

Bible: We continued learning about the Fruit of the Spirit. This week we learned about Patience and Kindness. We learned:

Patience - I will wait without complaining
Kindness - I will be nice to everyone.

We thought of times when we complain and what we could say instead of complaining. We also learned that even a small act of kindness can make a difference and change someone's day.





Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: after, never, father, water, other, winter, paper, finger, master, winner, mother, number, brother, discover, summer, computer, whole, hole

2. Memory Verse: Don't worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him. Philippians 4:6
