Friday News 9/10-9/14

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we focused on Accuracy Strategies. We learned what to do when we come to words that we don't know while reading.

Writing: We learned how to add more details to our stories. The students worked really hard on Friday to find areas of their stories where they could add more details and help the reader picture the story in their mind.

Math: This week we finished our review chapter on addition and subtraction. Next week we will take our Chapter 1 Test.

Bible: We learned about Joseph and how God took care of him. Even though he went through hard times, God had a plan for his life and helped him.

Social Studies: We made our own pirate maps and then gave directions using North, South, East, and West on how to get to the treasure.

2. Bible Verse: Lord, you are forgiving and good. You are full of love for all who call out to you. Psalm 86:5

3. There is no school on Monday. Enjoy the long weekend!

5. PICTURE DAY: Picture Day is next week. Our day is Thursday and our time is 9:00.

Each student received a Scholastic Book Order today. This is a way that you can order books in English for your child. If you would like to order some books you can do so in the following ways:

1. Order online at  http://world-schools.scholastic.co.uk/okinawa-christian-school-intl. Please find our class (2.1 Miss Guiles Class) and click the books that you would like to buy. Put in your credit card information and then your books will be put with the rest of our class order.

2. Fill out the order form inside the booklet and return it to school with the money. I will input your order online.

Books usually arrive 1-2 weeks after the final order is placed. I will place the order on Tuesday, September 25.

Friday News 9/3-9/7

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we continued to build our reading stamina. We were able to read for 20 minutes two days in a row! We also practiced reading with a partner. This week we also learned how to Check for Comprehension by asking Who? and What? while reading.







Writing: We started writing narrative stories! We learned how to plan out our parts across our fingers and write about each part.





Math: We continued to practice our addition skills and learned about subtraction.

Social Studies: This week we studied maps and learned that most maps have a title, compass, and map key. We also learned how to give directions using north, south, east, and west.


Bible: We learned about Abraham this week. We learned that God always keeps His promises and that we need to trust Him even when we don't understand.

2. Bible Memory Verse: I am the Lord your God. I say to you, "Do not be afraid. I will help you." Isaiah 41:13

3. Friday T-Shirts were sent home today in your child's backpack! We try to wear these shirts on Fridays and when we go on Field Trips.

Friday News 8/31

We had a great first two weeks of school! We have been practicing how to work in partners and groups. We have also been practicing our daily reading, writing, and math routines.

















Here is a look at our week:

Reading: We practiced reading independently to build our reading stamina. Our ultimate goal is 20 minutes of uninterrupted reading time. We finished the week reading for 18 minutes!















Writing: This week we started thinking of ideas for personal narratives. Then we took our ideas and made them even smaller and more specific. Today we learned how to plan out each part of our story. Next week we will get to write our first story!

Math: In math we have been practicing how to play math games and work in partners. We also reviewed our addition strategies from first grade.

Bible: We learned about God creating the world and how Adam and Eve disobeyed God. We also learned about Noah and how he followed God even when everyone else around him was doing the wrong thing. Through Noah's story we learned that God always keeps His promises.















Social Studies: We started our first Social Studies unit on Maps and Globes. This week we learned all about globes and found the seven continents.

Important Information:

2. Bible Memory: He doesn't change his mind. He makes a promise, and then he keeps it. Numbers 23:19

3. There will be no school on Monday.

Friday News 6/4-6/8

Only 3 1/2 more days of school! We are nearing the end, but the students kept working hard this week! Here's a look at what we did:

Reading: We have been reading a chapter book together called The Phoenix of Destiny. We continued reading that this week and almost finished!

Writing: This week we wrote comics with a partner. The students came up with character, a problem, and how their characters were going to try and solve the problem. They had fun illustrating their comics too.








Math: We learned about fractions and how to find the area of a shape. Then we took our last chapter math test.

Bible: We continued learning about the fruit of the Spirit. We learned about Kindness (I will be nice to everyone), Goodness (I will do what is right), and Faithfulness (I will not quit).


Important Information:

1. Our last day of school is Wednesday! We will be having a class party from 11:00-12:30. Your student does not need to bring a lunch on this day as we will have a potluck to celebrate. Parents are also welcome to come and join us!

2. If your child is attending summer school, please look in their Homework Folder to see who their teacher is and what supplies they need to bring with them.

3. We will be taking home all of our supplies next week, so please make sure your child brings their backpack with them to school.

Friday News: 5/28-6/1

Only a week and a half left in the school year! Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we read two different versions of Jack and the Beanstalk!

Writing: The students finished their group research projects on a continent and worked on putting all their information on a poster.













Math: We learned about 3D shapes and the relationship between 2D and 3D shapes. We also learned the fractions halves, thirds, and fourths.

Bible: This week we continued learning about the fruit of the Spirit. We learned about PEACE (I won't be afraid because I trust God) and PATIENCE (I will wait without complaining).


Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: inside, outside, without, forgave, Sunday, forever, anything, butterfly, underline, flashlight, sometimes, basketball, sunburned, newspaper, grandfather, grandmother, early, busy

2. Memory Verse: In the same way, let your line shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

3. Please remember that the last day of school is Wednesday, June 13th. School will end at 12:30pm and we will be having a celebratory lunch together as a class. There will be no school on this day.
