We had another great week in 2.1! We were able to finish up some of our units and start some new ones.  Here's a look at what we did this week:

Reading: In Reading we finished our unit on Author's Purpose.  This week we read several different books and the students had to identify why the author wrote the story.


Writing: Last week we began learning about research writing.  We divided into groups to study the different continents.  This week we spent our time finishing up our research and then making posters to show what we learned.






Math: This week we continued our study of fractions.  We learned how to make fractions of groups and we started learning about equivalent fractions.

Bible: In Bible we finished our unit on the miracles of Jesus.  We learned about Jesus healing 10 men who had a skin disease and about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.  On Thursday we finished our unit by making puzzles to show what we have learned about Jesus' power.

3. The Bazaar will be on Saturday, March 5th! We are in need of some parents to help run our booth on that day.  We are asking that parents sign up for a 2 hour time slot if possible.  Our times will be 9:00-11:00, 11:00-1:00, 1:00-3:00.  Please let me know if you are available to help and what times.

4. Here are some important upcoming dates:

March 7th - OCSI Holiday - NO SCHOOL
March 11th - Culture Fair - All students will need to bring a home lunch
March 21st - Teacher Professional Development Day - NO SCHOOL

Field Trip to the Aquarium

We had an awesome time at the aquarium today! Thank you to all the parents who came with us and helped!
























  


Here's a peek at what our short week looked like:

Reading: In Reading this week we continued learning about Author's Purpose.  We learned that some authors write for the purpose of entertaining us.  We also had the chance to read some fun Dr. Seuss books.

Writing: This week we began our research unit.  We learned that research is searching for information about a topic.  Our first research project is about continents.  Each student picked a continent and each group started their research on Thursday.























Math: In Math we began Unit 9 on Fractions.  We took our pre-test and then started learning about basic fractions.

Bible: For Bible we learned about Jesus feeding 4000 people and healing a man who was blind from birth.  We learned that Jesus has power over blindness and that He has the ability to heal anyone.

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day! We had fun celebrating Valentines Day today and getting to share treats with one another.  Here's a quick look at our week:

Reading: In Reading this week we continued talking about Author's Purpose. This week we learned about how authors write books to explain, give directions, or present information.  We looked at several social studies books, science books, and biographies to see what the author was trying to teach us.


For Spelling this week our focus was on contractions.  We learned how to make contractions and practiced by doing contraction surgery! Here are some pictures of our 2.1 "doctors":

 

   



 
  





Writing: This week we finished our Poetry Unit by writing a rhyming poem about an animal.  We first practiced finding rhyming words and then picked an animal to write about.

Math: In Math this week we finished Unit 7 and took our unit test.  Next week we will start our unit on fractions.

Bible: For Bible we continued studying the miracles of Jesus.  This week we learned about how Jesus knows our needs and takes care of us.  We studied the story of Jesus feeding 5000 men and their families and the story of Jesus walking on water.


 




Important Information:

1. There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday! Enjoy the long weekend! :)

Due to next week being a short week, we will have these spelling words for two weeks.

The test for this verse will be on 2/26.

4. Our 2nd grade field trip to the Aquarium will be next FRIDAY! Students will need to bring a cold home lunch with them to school on that day.  We will leave right at 8:30 and be arriving back at school around 2:00.  If you are planning on coming with us, please be sure to send in the 490 yen to me with your student before Friday.

5. Bazaar is coming up on March 5th.  This year we will be collecting money to purchase the materials needed to set up our Nachos and Popcorn booth.  If you have any questions please let me know or email Mrs. Frazier.
