Friday News 1/14-1/18

We had a great week with Kite Day and Parent Observations. It was a great day to be outside together and fly our kites.

















Here's a look at the rest of our week:

Reading: We finished learning how to draw conclusions. We worked in partners to draw conclusions based on four clues, we drew conclusions while reading, and finished the week by drawing conclusions from the Pigeon books by Mo Willems.

















Writing: We continued to write our Nominations for our favorite books. We learned how to add quotes and important parts to our writing to convince the reader.

Math: We finished our unit on three-digit addition. Next week we will start three-digit subtraction.











Bible: We learned two miracles of Jesus. First we learned how Jesus healed a Centurion's servant from far away. We also learned how Jesus healed a paralyzed man and forgave His sins.

3. Our Scholastic Book Order will end this Friday (January 25th). You may order online at http://world-schools.scholastic.co.uk/okinawa-christian-school-intl or you may send in the money and order form with your student (Japanese yen or American dollars is okay).

4. Spirit Week: OCSI Spirit Week will take place 1/28-2/1. Each day will be a different theme.

Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday (Crazy Hair/Mismatch)
Thursday - Throwback Thursday (Decades Day)

5. Our 2nd grade field trip to the Aquarium will be on Friday, March 22nd. More information will be coming soon.

Friday News 1/7-1/11

We had a great first week back from Christmas Break! We enjoyed hearing about our breaks and being together again!





Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we learned how to Draw Conclusions. We practiced looking at clues to figure out what was happening even when the author did not say.

Writing: In a few weeks we will be giving out awards to our favorite books. We spent this week learning how to nominate a book for an award. We practiced picking an award, finding evidence in the book, and writing about it.

Math: We started learning about three-digit addition. We reviewed how to regroup if the answer is more than ten. Next Friday we will take our chapter test.

Bible: We started our unit on the Miracles of Jesus. We learned about Jesus turning water into wine, healing a boy that was sick, and healing a man that had leprosy. With each miracle we learned something about Jesus's power. This week we learned that Jesus has power over water, sickness, and distance.

Science: This week we learned about butterflies with Mrs. Lyons!

Important Information:

2. Memory Verse: He has removed our sins from us. He has removed them as far as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12

3. Observation and Kite Day: Next Monday is Parent Observation Day and Kite Day! Parents are welcome to come and observe our class any time between 8:30-10:30. We will also be flying our kites outside from 9:30-10:00. Every student needs to bring their own kite to school. Please label your child's kite with their name.

4. Scholastic Book Order: We have a new Scholastic Book Order. The last day to order will be Friday, January 25.

Friday News 12/10-12/14

Happy Christmas Break! We had a great party today. Thank you to all the parents who brought in food and helped with our party!








Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we read some fun Christmas books. On Thursday we read How the Grinch Stole Christmas and did a science experiment where we made the Grinch's heart grow with baking soda and vinegar.


Writing: We wrote what we would like in our stockings. We also wrote stories about a snowman who came to life.






Math: We finished our Chapter on Place Value and took our test.

Bible: We practiced for our Nativity Play today! The students did a really great job with their parts. I will post the video soon!

Important Information:
1. Christmas Break has started! School will start again on January 7th.

2. Kite Day and Parent Observation Day will be on Monday, January 14th. Parents are welcome to come and observe our class anytime between 8:30-10:30. Our kite flying time will be from 9:30-10:00. If you have any questions please let me know or check the email from Mrs. Roe.

Friday News 12/3-12/7

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We continued learning how to make connections. We read several stories and shared our text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections with one another

Writing: We finished our unit on writing letters. We learned how to end a letter and then chose our best work to turn in.

Math: We have been learning about place value. This week we learned how to write a number in expanded form and word form. Next week we will finish our chapter and take our test.

Bible: We learned about Jesus choosing His 12 disciples. We learned that God gave the disciples a special job: to go and tell others about Him.

Science: We finished learning about plants with Mrs. Lyons!

Hour of Code: This week we got the chance to participate in Hour of Code. This is an online program for students to practice coding. We had a lot of fun doing this on Monday!







We also said good-bye to Mrs. E on Friday. We are so thankful for all she did for our class this past semester! We will miss her!



Important Information:

Friday News 11/26-11/30

We had a wonderful Christmas Program on Friday!













Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We learned about Making Connections while reading.

Writing: We continued writing our letters. We learned how to give more examples to support our opinion.

Math: We finished learning about two-digit subtraction and took our chapter test. Then we started learning about place value.

Bible: We learned about Jesus's baptism and temptation. We learned that He is God's Son.

Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: rejoice, point, noise, join, coin, toy, enjoy, good-bye, cool, room, stood, football, shook, too, they, alike

2. Memory Verse: "Come. Follow me," Jesus said. "I will make you fishers of people." Matthew 4:19
