Friday News 9/15

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we focused on accuracy strategies to help us read the words correctly. We learned how to stretch out the words, look for silent 'e', and cross-check. We also continued to practice our Read to Self and Read to Someone to build stamina.

Writing: We learned how to edit our stories and published our first story! On Friday we had a chance to share our finished stories with the class.















Math: This week we learned about fact families and two-step word problems. On Friday we reviewed our addition and subtraction facts to get ready for our test next week.















Bible: We learned about Jacob and Esau. Even though Jacob made some bad choices, we learned that God did not give up on him. We also learned about one of his sons, Joseph. Joseph kept trusting God even though some hard things happened to him. We learned to trust God no matter what is happening in our lives.

1. Spelling Words: smoke, quick, backpack, hike, clock, lake, strike, backstroke, check, ticket, friend, baseball

2. Memory Verse: Lord, you are forgiving and good. You are full of love for all who call out to you. Psalm 86:5

3. There is no school on Monday.

4. Our Toguchi Beach field trip is Friday, September 29th. We will leave school at 10:30 and return at 2:00.

Friday News 9/8

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we learned how to check our comprehension while we are reading. We learned to stop and ask ourselves who the characters are and what has happened so far in the story.  We also continued to build our independent reading stamina.

Writing: We started writing true stories about our lives. This week we focused on building our writing stamina by writing for longer periods of time. On Friday we shared some of our stories with a partner!















Math: This week we focused on adding three or four numbers together and solving word problems.

Bible: We learned that God always keeps His promises. When He says that He will do something, He follows through. We looked at the story of Noah and how God promised never to flood the whole earth again. We also learned about Abraham and that God promised him a son even though Abraham was very old. God kept His promise and gave Abraham a son when he was 100 years old.

3. Our 1st and 2nd grade Field Trip to Toguchi Beach will be on Friday, September 29th. Permissions slips were sent home today in Friday Folders. Please sign both pieces of paper and return them to school by next Friday.

Friday News 9/1

Tonight is our Elementary Open House! I am looking forward to meeting many of you and answering any questions you may have! Here is the schedule for tonight:

6:00-6:20: Introductions in the Cafeteria
6:25-6:40: First Session in Classrooms
6:45-7:00: Second Session in Classrooms


Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we started building our independent reading stamina. We practiced reading to ourselves and made it to 15 minutes of uninterrupted reading! Next week we will continue to work towards our goal of 20 minutes.

Writing: We learned how to take a big idea and break it into smaller ideas for writing. We came up with lots of ideas and we are excited to start writing about them next week!

Math: In Math we reviewed our addition strategies. We also practiced our math centers.















Bible: This week we learned that God created the whole world in seven days. We also learned about Adam and Eve and how they disobeyed God.

Important Information:

2. Bible Memory Verse: He doesn't change his mind. He speaks, and then he acts. He makes a promise, and then he keeps it. Numbers 23:19


3. There will be NO SCHOOL this Monday. Enjoy the long weekend!

4. Our 1st and 2nd Grade Field Trip to Toguchi Beach will be on Friday, September 29th. More information will be coming soon!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!!

Welcome to our 2.1 class! We had a great week of getting to know each other and learning about the rules of our classroom. We are excited to learn and grow together this year!


This week we learned about our four classroom rules:

1. We are KIND
2. We are RESPECTFUL
3. We are HARD WORKERS
4. We are SELF-CONTROLLED

We also learned how to work in partners and how to work together in a group. We practiced through several different games and activities.


















Important Information:

1. Spelling Words: Each week we will have a list of spelling words that we will focus on. Our spelling tests will take place on Fridays. Next week's words are:

ask, best, went, past, stamp, clap, next, ten, sent, band, funny, sister

2. Bible Memory Verse: Every week we will have a Memory Verse that goes along with our Bible lessons. We will work on it together in class, but please also have your child practice at home. On Fridays I will ask each student to recite the verse to me as a part of their Bible grade. Next week's verse is:

The earth belongs to the Lord. And so does everything in it. Psalm 24:1

3. Our school Open House will be next Friday, September 1st. This is a chance for you to meet me, hear about our class, and ask any questions you might have. I hope to see you there!

We made it to the end of the school year!! It is hard to believe that 10 months have already passed. We have learned and grown so much this year!

Here's a look at our week:
Reading: We performed a Reader's Theater story about the Three Little Pigs. The students were divided into 6 different scenes and spent time practicing their lines and their acting. They did a great job! Here's our final video:

Bible: We finished talking about the Fruit of the Spirit. This week we learned about Faithfulness (I will not give up), Gentleness (I will be soft when I want to be hard), and Self-Control (I will do what is right even when I don't want to).



On Friday we had our class party! It was a great time of eating and celebrating all that the students have accomplished this year.

Only one more week of school! It is hard to believe that this school year is almost over!

Reading/Writing: This week we wrote book reports on some of our favorite books. We identified the characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end, and wrote a recommendation.

Math: We continued learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We looked at what 2D shapes make up the different 3D shapes.

Bible: We continued our study on the Fruit of the Spirit. We learned about Kindness (I will be nice to everyone) and Goodness (I will do what is right).

Important Information:

There will be no spelling words or Bible Memory Verse this week.

Our last day of school is Friday! We will be having a class party on that day and then an early dismissal at 12:30. We hope that you can join for this fun time and celebrate the end of 2nd grade with us!
