Friday News 8/31

We had a great first two weeks of school! We have been practicing how to work in partners and groups. We have also been practicing our daily reading, writing, and math routines.

Here is a look at our week:

Reading: We practiced reading independently to build our reading stamina. Our ultimate goal is 20 minutes of uninterrupted reading time. We finished the week reading for 18 minutes!

Writing: This week we started thinking of ideas for personal narratives. Then we took our ideas and made them even smaller and more specific. Today we learned how to plan out each part of our story. Next week we will get to write our first story!

Math: In math we have been practicing how to play math games and work in partners. We also reviewed our addition strategies from first grade.

Bible: We learned about God creating the world and how Adam and Eve disobeyed God. We also learned about Noah and how he followed God even when everyone else around him was doing the wrong thing. Through Noah's story we learned that God always keeps His promises.

Social Studies: We started our first Social Studies unit on Maps and Globes. This week we learned all about globes and found the seven continents.
