Friday News 2/11-2/15

We enjoyed celebrating Valentine's Day this week! We decorated our Valentine bags and passed out our Valentines. We also got the chance to make and give out Valentines for the High Schoolers and Office Staff!










Reading: This week we learned about Point of View. We learned that different characters view the story differently and worked to identify their point of view.

Writing: We continued writing poems. We learned how to look for a big feeling and small moment to write about.

Math: We learned about money this week. We practiced counting different amounts of money including pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

Bible: This week we learned about Jesus feeding 5000 people, walking on the water, and healing a man that was born blind. We learned that Jesus has power over water, blindness, and multiplying a little into a lot.

4. NEXT WEEK IS WEEK OF READING (2/18-2/22)! We are excited to spend the whole week celebrating our favorite books!

Monday: We love reading with stuffies! Bring a stuffed animal to school.

Tuesday: We love reading our favorite books! Come dressed up as your favorite character from a book. Please bring the book with you. At 8:40 we will have our Character Parade where we will walk around the school with our favorite books!

Wednesday: We love reading Dr. Seuss books! Wear a hat.

Thursday: We love reading with a buddy! Wear a shirts with words.

5pm-6pm Family Reading Night. Please meet in the cafeteria.

Friday: We love reading in our pajamas! Wear pajamas to school (please make sure you are still in dress code).

Friday News 2/4-2/8

Last quarter we wrote award nominations for our favorite books. We asked Mrs. Roe to read them and pick the winner. This week she came to our class to announce the winners who received a medal and got to have lunch with her!

Kindest Character: Snow Queen on Ice
Most Creative Story: The Kissing Hand
Funny Award: Happy Birthday to You, You Belong in a Zoo!



In Music class we started learning the bells!


Reading: We continued learning about cause and effect. We read several books together and identified the cause and effect in groups and on our own.





Writing: We have been writing poems! This week we thought of ideas that we could write about. We thought about things we love and will be writing poems about them next week.

Math: We finished three-digit subtraction and now we are learning about money. We learned about the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. We also practiced adding up different coins.




Phonics: This week we learned about contractions! On Wednesday we became word surgeons and performed surgery on our words to make them into contractions.












Bible: We learned three miracles of Jesus. We learned about Jesus healing a woman who was bleeding for 12 years. We also learned how he raised a girl from the dead. In our last story we learned how Jesus healed a man who was lame for 38 years. We learned that Jesus has power over long sicknesses and over death.

Important Information:

3. Next Thursday is Valentines Day! We will have a small party at the end of the day. If you would like to send Valentines with your students you may do so. This is not required but if you would like to send in something please make sure you have something for every one in the class (22 students).

Friday News - 1/28-2/1

We had a lot of fun during this Spirit Week! Here are some pictures:



Here's a look at our week:

Reading: This week we learned about Cause and Effect. We played several games to match the cause and effect and read some books. We will continue learning about this next week.








Writing: We started our unit on Poems. We spent the week observing special objects and writing down what they looked like and what they reminded us of. We will turn these observations into poems.






Math: We continued learning about three-digit subtraction. We learned how to borrow from the hundreds place, how to borrow twice, and how to borrow across zeros. Next week we will take our test.

Bible: This week we learned about Jesus raising a widow's son from the dead, calming a storm, and healing a man who was possessed by demons. We learned that Jesus has power over death, storms, and demons.

Kid City: We learned about the Bank. We practiced cashing a check and making a deposit.

Friday News 1/21-1/25

Here's a look at our week:

Reading: We learned about sequencing events in the story. We read several stories together and practiced putting the events in order from beginning to end.





Writing: We finished writing nominations for our favorite books! This week we wrote nominations for the Funny Award, Most Creative Story Award, or the Kindest Character Award.

Math: We started our unit on three-digit subtraction. We reviewed how to borrow and subtract and extended our knowledge to three-digit numbers.

Bible: In Bible we continued to learn about Jesus's miracles. We learned about Jesus healing a man who had a withered hand.

Kid City: This week we started our Kid City unit! We started by learning about different kinds of communities. We will continue to learn about different businesses and people in our community up until our 1st and 2nd grade Kid City event on Friday, April 19.
